Shirley M. (Pifer) Whelpley

Shirley M. (Pifer) Whelpley, age 84, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away peacefully at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital on Monday, October 25, 2021. Shirley was born on October 27, 1936, to the late Orville and Alma (Hillis) Pifer in McCalmont Township, PA. She graduated from Reynoldsville – Winslow High School with the class of 1954. On May 25, 1956, in Reynoldsville, PA, she married Russell Philip Whelpley; after sixty-two years of highs and lows, but always loving companionship, Russell preceded her in passing on July 8, 2018. Shirley had a strong faith in God and attended the Reynoldsville Gospel Center until her health no longer allowed. Shirley loved her family and was known for her energetic spirit. She was a passionate woman who was firm in her beliefs and quick to protect what she loved and believed in. Shirley also enjoyed baking, especially the cookies she made that were known around Reynoldsville. Shirley brought life into anyplace she visited and was rarely seen without a smile. Shirley is survived by one son; Michael P. (Kathy) Whelpley of Reynoldsville, PA; one daughter; Lu Ann (Michael) Vogt of Auburndale, FL; and one brother; Howard E. (Dianne) Pifer. She is also survived by four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who lovingly knew her as Mimi. In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in passing by one infant son. Family and friends are invited to join together on Saturday, October 30, 2021, for a celebration of Shirley’s life through pictures and music, beginning at 1:00pm, at the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA, 15851. The celebration will be officiated by Rev. Kevin Brooks. Memorial contributions are encouraged to be made in her name to the Reynoldsville Library, the Youth Sports Leagues in Reynoldsville, or to the Reynoldsville Ambulance Company.
