Peggy Lou (Butler) Haines, age 85, passed away peacefully while in the loving care of the staff Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital on March 3, 2022. Born October 14, 1936, Peggy was the first-born daughter of Rufus Eugene Falk and Bertha LaVana Dempsey's family of five children. In 1952, Peggy would become the young bride of Russel Roswell Butler. Their marriage brought them six children, David, Michael, Thomas, Rhoda, Tina and Brian, whose lives would become their most revered focus throughout the nearly 58 years of their marriage. Through the years, the children would come to recognize that they had inherited resilience to persevere through the adversities found in life. Following the passing of her husband Russel, Peggy married Thomas E. Haines, a former Brookville Police Officer. In their relationship, until the time of his passing, they enjoyed camp life in the forests surrounding Brookville and Benezette. Peggy was well known as a tireless hostess, working most of her life at the counters of many of the restaurants and diners in the Brookville area. She retired from the Truckstops of America after 28 years of service. At that time, she was recognized as the longest serving employee of the establishment. Peggy found immense joy solving crosswords and Sudoku puzzles, a routine which helped to keep her mind sharp and active. She could always be counted upon for her recollection regarding events, including everyone's birth dates and anniversaries. Peggy was preceded in death by both of her parents, husbands, brothers David and Harry Falk and sister, Lesta Jean Wilson. Peggy leaves behind her beloved sister Naomi Kinza of Girard, Pennsylvania. As well as her children and their spouses, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, Sophia, whose birth established the presence of a fifth living generation. Peggy held a special presence in all of those whose lives she had touched. She will be genuinely remembered and cherished, as she has brought us all to understand that her strength was truly found in her loving heart. Services will be held privately to the family and have been entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825. Final interment will take place at the Emerickville Church of God Cemetery, Emerickville, Jefferson Co., PA. The family would like to extend their appreciation for the facilities and loving staff that cared for Peggy over the last three years at Penn Highlands Jefferson Manor.
