Margaret "Marg" Katherine (Lindy) Garthwaite

Margaret Katherine “Marg” (Lindy) Garthwaite, 94 years, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital. She was born on June 9, 1927, in Reynoldsville, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ida (Brocious) Lindy.  She met her husband William “Bill” Garthwaite, who survives, when he asked “the prettiest girl in the room” to dance and they married after his return from WW2 on August 21, 1948. They had three children and were happily married for almost 73 years. She worked for the DuBois Area School District in the cafeteria at C.G. Johnson Elementary School for 27 years and enjoyed cooking for all of the children and staff there. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, reading, completing crossword puzzles, watching soap operas and cooking shows, and feeding and watching the birds. She enjoyed trying out new recipes and making her families’ favorite meals. Everyone gathered at her house for holidays and Sunday dinner and never went home without left overs. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Ronald (Denise) Garthwaite, daughter Judy Reiter and Shawn Rankus, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and her brother James (Jean) Lindy. In addition to her parents, Marg was preceded in passing by her son William Garthwaite Jr., daughter-in-law Bonnie (Nelson) Garthwaite, brothers William Lindy and Harry (Doris) Lindy, sisters Betty (Donald) Smee, and June (Donald) Palmer, and niece Carol Wilt. Interment will take place at the Reynoldsville Cemetery in Reynoldsville, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA 15851.
