Joseph Amshey Obituary

Joseph A. Amshey, 80, of Reynoldsville, PA, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020, while a patient at the Penn Highlands DuBois Hospital in DuBois, PA. He was born on June 15, 1940, to the late Joseph J. and Helen R. (Wasileski) Amshey in Punxsutawney, PA. He married Mary Toelle on August 7, 1965. He proudly served his country with the United States Air Force, during which time he was stationed in Germany. Joseph received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his time served, which was presented to him by Vice President Dick Cheney. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Russian Studies and went on to complete graduate work at George Washington University. He retired from positions he held with the National Security Agency and Central Intelligence Agency. He held many memberships, including St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DuBois, F.O.E. 540 in Reynoldsville, American Legion DuBois Post 17, Fort Meade Officer’s Club, and Vietnam Veterans of America. Joseph is survived by one daughter; Katherine Amshey; one son; Matthew Amshey; one aunt; Rosie Clark; one brother in law; Anthony Pompeii; one niece; Lisa Pompeii; and five nephews; James Pompeii; Michael Pompeii; Mark Amshey; John Amshey; and David Amshey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by two brothers; David Amshey; Paul Amshey; and one sister; Barbara J. Pompeii. Services will be held privately by the family and have been entrusted to the Snyder – d’Argy Funeral Home, 206 E. Main Street, Reynoldsville, PA, 15851.
